Job Description
TEACHING ASSIGNMENT
Secondary School English as an Additional Language
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This position is one of a 6-person EAL/LS team that will collaborate closely to provide support in grades 6-12. The team consists of 2 EAL teachers, 2 EAL teaching assistant and 2 Learning Support teacher.
The assignment consists of a combination of EAL support classes and push-in to core academic classes to provide services to students who have been formally identified as English Language Learners.
RANGE OF CLASS SIZE
The group sizes may range from 1 to a “few” students but care is taken to allow for individual one-on-one support in the group sizes.
DAILY SCHOOL SCHEDULE
8 x 85 min periods over two days.
PLANNING TIME
1 period per day on average, though some of these may be used for meetings
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
In addition to teaching assigned classes, teachers formally assigned to the middle school division are involved in the advisory and discovery program (0.5 out of 8) and those assigned to the HS are involved in the advisory program (0.5 out of 8)
FACILITIES
The EAL teachers occupy a classroom/office with an LCD projector and printer, and each teacher is assigned a MacBook Pro for school use.
TECHNOLOGY EMPLOYED
All MS and HS students are in a 1:1 Mac laptop learning environment and teachers integrate the ISTE NET Standards into their curriculum with the support of the technology facilitator. Technology is integrated where appropriate to support and enhance 21st Century learning All teachers have a Macbook laptop computer.

? Aspen (grading and reporting)
? Atlas Rubicon (curriculum articulation)
? Moodle (online learning platform)
? Microsoft Office and/or Mac Publishing Programs
OTHER
The EAL and LS programs have been improved tremendously in the last couple of years to provide support in a cohesive and collegial fashion. This improvement is an ongoing effort. The Middle School employs a modified Response to Intervention program with the grade-level teams of teachers through the student concerns process. The EAL teacher is an integral team member of the Student Support Teams in the HS and the MS, meeting regularly with the learning support teacher, guidance counselors and administration to collaborate in support of students in need.
Monday faculty meetings after school are used for grade level, divisional, full-faculty or departmental meetings, and PD.
All teachers participate in the co-curricular program by coaching, or sponsoring a club or activity during the year, and all teachers participate in the 3-5 day/night extended campus trips with a grade level to explore a region of China.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
? Bachelor’s degree or higher; teaching certification valued;
? Minimum of 2 years of successful full-time teaching experience
